Professional Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVetMed) (“Residency”) in Neurology and Neurosurgery – The University of Edinburgh

Applications are invited from veterinary graduates for a Professional Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVetMed) (“Residency”) in Neurology and Neurosurgery.


The role is based within the Hospital for Small Animals at the School’s Easter Bush campus.  In this full-time training position aimed at the ECVN Diploma, the resident will contribute to the Neurology and Neurosurgery clinical service and fulfil teaching and research commitments under the supervision of 4 ECVN diplomates or residency-trained.  The Hospital for Small Animals has access to a 1.5T in-house and 3T on-campus MRI, 64-slice CT, fluoroscopy, electro-diagnostic equipment, intensive care unit, and cutting-edge physiotherapy and radiotherapy.  We offer a 24/7 service, the current annual caseload is approximately 1,200 and still growing.  We work in collaboration with colleagues in the Equine and Farm Animal Hospitals and the Rabbit and Exotic Practice on campus.  Candidates must have an enthusiasm for the discipline, an ability to work as part of a dedicated team, and have completed a one-year internship or equivalent clinical experience of at least a two-year duration.  Applicants should hold a degree that is recognised by the RCVS, be fully registered with the RCVS prior to the start of the scholarship, and have appropriate English language qualifications at the time of application.


The scholarship is available from March 2023 and will run for a four-year fixed-term, renewable annually subject to completion of required DVetMed and residency components.


The scholarship attracts an annual tax-free stipend of £27,026.37 per annum and an additional allowance per annum available for approved travel, examination fees, and CPD.  Postgraduate fees will be paid by the University of Edinburgh at the UK level.
