ECVN Neurology Residency Training Program

Term: 3,5 years fixed term / Residency start date: 1st February 2023. The deadline for applications is 30th September 2022.

The Small Animal University Hospital of the Vetsuisse Faculty in Bern is a busy, multidisciplinary, referralonly hospital in Switzerland, that is committed to providing high standards of patient care as well as postgraduate training (internships and residencies). The caseload is busy as well as varied yet provides a good learning and teaching environment. Strong team spirit spices the working days.

The neurology resident will be supervised and work in daily contact with two neurologists supported by European and American specialist clinicians in a wide range of disciplines (anaesthesia, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine (general and nephrology), emergency and critical care, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, ophthalmology). Our hospital contains excellent facilities of an advanced referral hospital including MRI, CT, fluoroscopy, electrophysiology equipment as well as a
wide range of neurosurgery equipment for computerassisted brain and spine surgery, videoendoscopy, microsurgery and minimally invasive surgery. Onsite physiotherapy is also provided to our patients.

During Clinic Time, the neurology resident will work under the supervision of the neurologists and will be involved in the daily care of patients, consultations, diagnostic procedures, and neurosurgeries. The resident will take part in weekly neurology (journal cubs, book clubs ...), radiology and neuropathology rounds. The resident will also be involved in clinical teaching of students and interns. Hospital emergency “out of hours” duty is also included.

During OffClinic Time, the resident will have 45 months to fulfill the required ECVN credentials which includes clinical rotations in related specialities, plan and carry out residency research projects.
Participation to international congresses is also encouraged. The resident will also have five weeks of holidays to enjoy beautiful Switzerland with its mountains, rivers and lakes.

This residency program will be suited for someone with 1) veterinary degree, 2) previous generalpractice experience and/or 3) previous general and/or specialty internship, 4) very good knowledge of German, French and English languages. Ideally, the candidate will already have some clinicalexperience in neurology.
